Adnan Jerkovic Becomes Fourth Triton to earn WWPA Player of the Week honors

5th-ranked Tritons Finish Sixth at NorCal Open

BERKELEY, Calif. -

The 5th-ranked UC San Diego men's water polo team split its final two matches at the Northern California Open on Sunday. UCSD beat 6th-ranked UC Irvine 11-10 to advance to the fifth-place game. Jonathan Hopkins netted five of the Tritons' goals against the Anteaters. The Tritons were down by one goal at halftime against 7th-ranked Pepperdine, but outscored 6-2 in the second-half as the Waves came out on top 12-7. UCSD and Pepperdine will have a rematch on Thrusday, October 20 at 2:00 pm in Malibu, Calif.

In the win over the Anteaters, UCSD led 7-6 at halftime and extended the lead to 11-8 after three periods. The Tritons did not score in the final frame as UCI added two goals to close out the scoring. In addition to Hopkins' five goals, Brandon Borso and Adnan Jerkovic netted two apiece while Chris Finegold and Kevin Smoker also scored. Colin McElroy made seven saves in goal.

In the loss to Pepperdine, Hopkins netted three goals and Jerkovic added two. Borso and Eichholz scored the other Triton goals. McElroy made nine saves in the match.
