The former four-year starter at Cal adds his experience as both a coach and player to the Triton staff. Colburn played for newly elected ABCA Hall of Fame Coach Bob Milano with the Golden Bears and remains among the program's career leaders in several categories 30 years later. He was co-captain and MVP of the 1980 Pac-10 Co-Championship team that set the school's single season record for victories and also helped lead Cal to the Midwest Regional Championship and a third place finish at the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.

Colburn went on to play professionally in the Texas Rangers and Oakland A's organizations. He spent five seasons with Fiorentina of the Italian Baseball League and also played winter ball in Australia.

He has served as a graduate assistant at Cal, a player/coach in the Oakland A's organization, manager of Fiorentina and Macerata in the Italian League, and manager at La Jolla Country Day School.

Colburn graduated from Cal with a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1983. He also has an A.S. in Viticulture from Santa Rosa Junior College, which he completed while founding Colburn Ranch Vineyards in Sonoma County. In addition to his duties at UCSD, Tom is currently President of Roy's Custom Sportswear.

His daughter Jessica is a June 2009 graduate of UCSD.
