Rose McPherson joined UC San Diego as Assistant Director, Communications in September 2021. In her role, she works primarily with the baseball, women’s basketball and women’s volleyball programs.
During her time in La Jolla, the Tritons earned the 2023 Big West Baseball Championship and back-to-back Big West Women’s Basketball tournament titles (2025, 2026) as well as the program’s first-ever NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament appearance in 2025 and the 2025-26 Big West Women’s Basketball regular season championship. McPherson served as the primary communications contact and spearheaded the content strategy for all three championships for the Tritons.
Prior to UC San Diego, McPherson served as Director of Strategic Communications at the University of San Diego for three years. While at USD, she was the lead communications contact for football, baseball and women’s volleyball, while also overseeing the content strategy for the Toreros’ 17 NCAA sports. During that stretch, the Toreros earned two Pioneer Football League titles and FCS Playoff berths (2018, 2019) as well as the 2019 WCC Women’s Volleyball Championship and three NCAA Tournament appearances, including the NCAA Regional Semifinal in 2018. McPherson was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Sports Information Honoree for the Pacific South Region in 2019.
Before joining the Toreros, McPherson spent five years in Colorado Springs with USA Volleyball. She served as a member of the Creative Services Department, working in video production and social media strategy across all levels of the USAV membership from grassroots and juniors to the indoor and beach senior national teams. During her time with USAV, she provided coverage for the 2016 Summer Olympics and Paralympics and for the inaugural NCAA Beach Volleyball National Championship (2016).
McPherson attended the University of San Diego, earning her Bachelor’s degree in communication studies with a concentration in media arts. As an undergraduate, she served as an office assistant for the Torero football program for four seasons. McPherson is a native of Olympia, Wash.
