Marites Exume was named an assistant coach with the University of California San Diego women's rowing team in September of 2019. The 2019-20 season is her first in this role, as she previously volunteered with the Triton novice program for the past two years.
Exume has also coached for ZLAC Rowing Club Ltd., a San Diego club, from 2017-19. She worked with high school and adult programs and instructed athletes on rowing stroke, boat handling, and safety.
Exume, who is a San Diego native, competed with the Puget Sound rowing team. She was a four-year letter winner and competed with the 2015 Northwest Conference (NWC) Championship-winning crew. Exume and her teammates went on to compete at the NCAA DIII National Championships that season. In Exume's final year with the Loggers, she was named to the All-NWC team.
During her time with Puget Sound, Exume served as a Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) team representative. She established partnerships with student clubs, faculty, and staff in order to encourage a healthy athletics environment.
Exume currently resides in El Cajon.
