Mike Hogan begins his second tenure as pole vault coach for the UCSD track and field program in 2009. He returns to coaching after a ten-year hiatus to focus on his duties at UC San Diego’s School of Medicine, where he serves as a professor in the Division of Physiology. He was the pole vault coach at UCSD from 1985 to 1998.

With over 20 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level, Hogan brings a vast amount of knowledge to the Triton vaulters. He served as pole vault coach at UC Santa Barbara from 1977-78, held the same title at his alma mater, Notre Dame from 1978-79, and coached at the University of Tennessee from 1980-84. While working at Tennessee he coached several SEC Champions and a Junior National Champion. Hogan produced several NCAA All-Americans, as well as the current school record holder during his first stint as the pole vault coach at UCSD.

Hogan was a team captain and school record holder at Notre Dame and has continued to compete in the vault, winning several National Master Championships. He has also placed in the top ten in several World Masters Championships. After earning his bachelors degree in 1976, Hogan received his Ph.D from Tennessee in 1985.
