Rafa Guzman enters his first season as the recruiting coordinator and player development coach with the UC San Diego softball program in 2027, bringing extensive experience at the club, professional and international levels.
Guzman joins the Tritons while serving as the president and coach of Breakers Labs Softball in San Diego, where he has developed and mentored athletes competing at the highest levels of youth softball. He also serves as the head coach of the Sultanes de Monterrey in the Liga Mexicana de Softbol (LMS) and the head coach of the El Salvador Women's National Softball Team.
One of the highlights of Guzman's coaching career came when he guided El Salvador to a historic gold medal at the Central American Games, marking one of the country's greatest achievements in international softball. He also led the Sultanes de Monterrey to a Liga Mexicana de Softbol championship, helping establish the club as one of the premier professional softball organizations in Mexico.
Throughout his coaching career, Guzman has built a reputation for developing athletes and creating disciplined, high-performance environments. His experience spans youth, professional and international softball, with an emphasis on player development, leadership and competitive excellence.
Before transitioning into full-time coaching, Guzman served in the United States Marine Corps, where he developed the leadership principles and commitment to service that continue to shape his coaching philosophy. He also worked as a partnership director for vocational schools and colleges across the United States, helping expand educational opportunities and career pathways for students nationwide.
Guzman's mission throughout his career has been to develop athletes, elevate programs and grow the game of softball across borders.
