Eva Watson was named a volunteer assistant coach for the UC San Diego softball program in July 2019.
In 2020, Watson helped lead the Tritons to an overall record of 21-8 (.724) and 12-8 (.600) across conference play. As a team, in what would end up being a shortened season, UC San Diego finished top-three in the CCAA in batting average (second/.311), ERA (second/1.75), and fielding percentage (third/.965). Additionally, the Tritons ranked first in hits (233), doubles (47), and total bases (310). Watson also guided nine scholar-athletes to the CCAA’s top-10 individual leader board and witnessed six others meet career milestones and surpass program records. Â
Watson served as the Volunteer Assistant Softball Coach at the University of San Diego during the 2018-19 season. She developed a weekly conditioning program for the team, and also ran weekly footwork and agility skill hours for the Toreros. In addition, Watson wrote daily practice plans for both the defensive and offensive groups, and created video folders for each individual hitter. Â Â
Scouting was another of Watson’s roles with the Toreros, as she assembled film and weekly scouting reports on opposing teams.
Prior to assisting the Toreros, Watson was the Senior Intern for the weight room at the University of Arizona, her alma mater. She planned and led workouts for multiple teams while also managing the workout equipment and training new interns.
During her softball career at Arizona, Watson played in 182 games for the Wildcats. The outfielder recorded a .320 batting average over her four years, helping Arizona to Super Regional appearances every year. Watson closed her Wildcat career in 2017, as she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sports and Society, as well as a minor in Sports Management.
Watson has also dedicated her time to working and volunteering at various athletic camps. Among the camps that she has helped at are Mike Candrea and Southwest Softball Camps, Jay Johnson Baseball Winter Prospect Camp, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes Camp at Northern Arizona University.
Watson currently resides in Clairemont.
