Eric Rubens is entering his first season as an assistant to head coach Eric Steidlmayer during the 2008-2009 school year.

“We’re excited to have him coming on board with us,” Steidlmayer said. “It’s great that we’ll have someone right around the same age as the players to relate with them, not only on the court but off the court as well.”

The main responsibilities for Rubens include assisting with match and tournament preparation as well as helping with travel arrangements for the squad.

Rubens, a La Jolla native, graduated from UCSD earlier in 2008 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. As a senior star on the court, Rubens earned two regional awards from the International Tennis Association – the ITA Senior Player of the Year award along with the ITA/Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship. Rubens was named the Player to Watch from the West Region after the 2007 season. In 2008, Rubens captained the Tritons to the round of 16 in the Division-II National Championships.

Through his four seasons as a Triton, Rubens compiled an overall singles record of 43-33.
