AS A SENIOR IN 2010: 2010-11 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year ... Started all 18 of the Tritons' matches in the midfield... Finished with the third-most minutes played with 1,534... Tied for third on the team with five total points on two goals and an assist... Scored his first goal of the season in the 89th minute to tie the match against Chico State on October 15, a game the Tritons would eventually win 3-2 in overtime... Led the team with 35 shots.

AS A JUNIOR 2009: Started in 16 of UCSD’s 20 matches... Scored in games against Humboldt State, Cal State East Bay and Cal State Dominguez Hills... Finished second on the Tritons in points with three goals and four assists... Named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team after compiling a grade-point average of 3.86... Ended the year on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll at the Gold Level (includes GPAs above 3.500).

AS A SOPHOMORE IN 2008: Played in 16 of UCSD’s 18 games while starting in three of those matches... In a start at home against Seattle Pacific on Oct. 25, registered his first career point with an assist on a second-half goal by Tony Fernandez... Concluded the school year on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll at the Gold Level.

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2007: Played in 16 of UCSD’s 17 matches... Came off the bench in all but one of his appearances, his first collegiate start in a 1-0 road loss against Cal Poly Pomona on Sept. 9... Finished the school year on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll at the Gold Level.

HIGH SCHOOL: A 2007 graduate of Piedmont High School… Played soccer for coaches Peter Hayton and Glenn Van Straatum... Helped team to a 16-0-2 record and the Bay Shore Athletic League title as a senior… Scored 20 goals and assisted on seven others as a senior, earning All-BSAL First Team honors and the team’s offensive MVP award… Played for the Bay Oaks club team, advancing to the Cal-North State Cup quarterfinals in 2006.

PERSONAL: Born July 15, 1989 in Oakland, Calif… Parents are Arthur and Debra Bakal… Older brother, Mike, played basketball at UCSD from 2004 to 2006… Is a Biology major and Judaic Studies minor at Marshall College… Enjoys photography, landscaping and playing bocce ball in his spare time...
