Michael D’Arrigo joined the UC San Diego men’s soccer staff in 2021 as a volunteer assistant before being promoted to first assistant coach in 2024. With more than a decade of coaching experience, D’Arrigo brings an extensive background in goalkeeper development, youth soccer and collegiate competition.
Prior to and alongside his time at UC San Diego, D’Arrigo has coached at multiple levels of the game, including Paradise Valley Community College, Miramar College, FC Tucson (PDL and USL2), Phoenix Rush, SDSC Surf, RSF Attack, Scripps Ranch SC, Matrix SC, Cathedral Catholic High School and SD Force FC, where he currently serves as Technical Director and Director of Goalkeeping.
A four-year starter at the University of San Diego, D’Arrigo helped lead the Toreros to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2012 and finished his career ranked among the program’s top 10 in several goalkeeping categories. He graduated in 2014 with a degree in business administration before continuing his playing career professionally with the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer and Arizona United, now Phoenix Rising, of the USL Championship.
D’Arrigo also enjoyed a decorated youth career. He represented the U.S. U18 Men’s National Team, won a national championship with the Real Salt Lake Academy and was named MLS SUM Cup MVP. He was also a two-time Region IV champion, two-time State Cup champion and competed at the World Championships in Madrid, Spain. During his time with FC Tucson, he helped the club capture two PDL division titles. At the high school level, D’Arrigo was a four-time First Team All-State selection and was named Arizona Player of the Year in 2008.
At UC San Diego, D’Arrigo has helped develop several standout goalkeepers. Dominic Peters earned All-Big West honors in 2022 and was recognized multiple times as Big West Defensive Player of the Week. Mitchell Wilson received the same honor in 2023, while Nic Thiele earned multiple Big West Defensive Player of the Week selections during the 2025 season.
D’Arrigo holds a U.S. Soccer “B” License, U.S. Soccer Club Technical Leadership License and United Soccer Coaches Goalkeeping License. He is currently pursuing his U.S. Soccer “A” License.
D’Arrigo and his wife live in San Diego with their two sons, Mateo and Sebastian.
