Addy Royal enters her second season as an assistant coach with UC San Diego's cross country program after joining the coaching staff in August of 2018.
In 2019, Royal played part in the Triton men's first trip back to the NCAA Championships since 2007 after a seventh-place finish at Regionals. Previously serving as assistant coach at Southern Oregon University, Royal helped guide the men's team to a NAIA Championship in 2016 and a fourth-place finish in 2017. She also led the women's team to seventh-place at the 2016 NAIA Championships. In addition, she had a role in the development of six NAIA All-Americans during her two seasons with the Raiders.
Royal earned her bachelor's degree at Sacramento State in 2016, majoring in communication studies with a concentration in digital media. She later received a master's in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership/Coaching at the University of Washington in the summer of 2018.
A former student-athlete at Sac State, Royal was part of four-consecutive Big Sky Conference championships with the Hornets. She was also a member of the National Honor Society and earned Coca-Cola Scholars accolades.
