Biography

AS A JUNIOR IN 2010: Recorded a seven-game hit streak from Mar. 13 to Apr. 3... Registered a 2-for-2 day on the road Apr. 11 against CSU Stanislaus along with two walks, three runs scored, and three RBI... Notched eight multi-RBI performances.

AS A SOPHOMORE IN 2009: Missed most of the season with an injury, appearing in 12 games with one start… Went 2-for-9 on the season with a run scored… Made 18 putouts without an error behind the plate.

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2008: Started 45 games at catcher for the Tritons… Hit .356 for the year… One of his two home runs came against Chico State in the CCAA Tournament… Raised his batting average sixty points the last month of the season… Had two four-hit games during the year… Recorded 25 assists.

HIGH SCHOOL: A 2007 graduate of Franklin HS in Elk Grove, Calif.… Baseball team qualified for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoffs in 2006 and 2007… In 2006, Benton led the Delta League with a .434 batting average… In 2007 he hit .458 with 13 doubles and two home runs, a .519 on-base percentage and .711 slugging percentage… Honors included All-Delta League for two seasons, team captain, team MVP and Sacramento Bee All-Metro First-Team.

PERSONAL: Born Nov. 19, 1988… Parents are William and Susan Benton… Has a younger brother named Alec… His great grandfather, "Kewpie" Dick Barrett, pitched professionally for the Seattle Rainiers (Pacific Coast League), the Philadelphia Athletics, Boston Braves, Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs in the 1930s and 1940s and is the career PCL strikeout leader and a member of the PCL Hall of Fame… A management science major with a minor in history in Roosevelt College… Favorite teams include the San Francisco Giants and 49ers, the Sacramento Kings and San Jose Sharks… Favorite athletes are Giants' pitcher Matt Cain, Twins' catcher Joe Mauer and inside linebacker Patrick Willis of the 49ers.
