Matt Hobbs

Matt Hobbs enters his third season as the pitching coach and recruiting director with UC San Diego in 2009. Hobbs comes from Santa Barbara City College where he was the pitching coach from 2004-06. He developed a strength and conditioning program for the team and also served as a recruiting coordinator. Hobbs’ pitchers earned spots on the All-Western State Conference squad, including an All-State pitcher. Additionally, his pitchers led the conference with a 2.27 team ERA and seven shutouts in 2005.

Hobbs has also had coaching experience with Foresters Baseball and Chapman University.

Hobbs pitched for the University of Missouri where he owns 13 career victories and holds the Big 12 record for consecutive strikeouts, set in 2002. He was drafted in 2001 by the San Diego Padres and in 2002 by the Kansas City Royals.
