•    Sophomore Aishah Brown landed a spot on the Big West All-Defensive Team
•    Senior Madison Baxter was second in the nation in three-point field goal percentage (.480)
•    Head coach Heidi VanDerveer earned her 200th coaching victory at UC San Diego
•    UC San Diego swept the regular season series (2-0) vs. eventual conference champion Hawai‘i


CROSS COUNTRY

Roster • Schedule
Head Coach: Nate Garcia (15th season)
•     Competed in the program’s first Division I season after the 2020 campaign was canceled
•     The women finished second at the Stump Invite/Big West Preview meet in early September, behind only eventual conference champion UC Davis. The Tritons defeated six regionally-ranked teams, two at each of the final three meets of the season. In addition, nine UC San Diego all-time top-20 marks were established at the Roy Griak Invitational.
•     The men produced six UC San Diego all-time top-20 marks at the Roy Griak Invitational in late September. The Tritons carried that momentum into their next meet where they defeated two regionally-ranked opponents to wrap up the season at the Princeton Invitational.


FENCING

Head Coach: Juan Ignacio Calderon (4th season)
•    The Tritons placed 13th at the National Collegiate Championships, equaling the team’s best-ever finish at a full-field Nationals 
•    Junior Shawn Kim finished third in Men’s Saber at Nationals, matching the best individual finish in program history and earning All-America distinction. In addition, he was the NCAA West Region and MPSF Men’s Saber Champion and was tabbed the USFCA Men’s Saber Fencer of the Year as well as the MPSF Men’s Fencer of the Year
•    Freshman foil fencer Rafaella Gomes won several major awards including USFCA All-West Region First Team, All-MPSF First Team, and MPSF Women’s Newcomer of the Year

GOLF Roster • Schedule
Head Coach: Fred Hanover (4th season)
•    The Tritons placed second by a single stroke at their own UC San Diego Invitational at La Costa. It was the team’s best-ever finish at a full-field Division I tournament
•    Redshirt freshman Davis McDowell, an All-Big West Honorable Mention performer, also placed second by a single stroke at La Costa
•    UC San Diego produced five top-10 finishes throughout the season

•    Second and Third Varsity 8s both took first place at the San Diego Crew Classic
•    Varsity 8 took a fourth straight Western Sprints victory, winning by a margin of nearly 3 seconds
•    Qualified for a fifth consecutive trip to the IRA National Championship regatta

•    Senior Hailey Caldwell-Meurer was named to the All-CAA team
•    The varsity eight earn CAA Boat of the Week for their 6:56.3 finish at the Hornet Invitational
•    The second varsity eight placed first in the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungess Trophy final at the San Diego Crew Classic
•    The Tritons took home four medals at the WIRA Championships, two silver and two bronze

•    Head coach Marko Djordjevic was named MPSF Swim Coach of the Year after leading the women to their first conference title

Head Coach: Timmer Willing (10th season) • Record: 4-22 (1-5 Big West)
•    Recorded first Division I win, defeating Villanova, 6-1, on March 3 at Northview Tennis Courts
•    Earned first Big West Conference win with a 5-2 triumph over UC Riverside at home on March 7
•    Daniel Traxler and William Lan earned All-Big West Honorable Mention as a doubles partnership
•    Played seven matches against ranked opponents, including six in a row

•    Earned first Big West Conference win over UC Irvine, a 5-2 triumph on Feb. 5
•    Sophomore Ella Pachl earned Honorable Mention All-Big West recognition
•    Pachl and doubles partner Sophie Pearson, a junior, captured Honorable Mention All-Big West doubles
•    Playing at No. 2, freshmen Katelyn Vu and Naomi Nguyen were 8-4 in doubles play

Men's Head Coach: Tony Salerno (23rd season) • Women's Head Coach: Darcy Ahner (15th season)
•    Took part in 15 meets this season, the program's fullest slate of competition since 2019
•    Senior Jake Selstad set the UC San Diego record in the 800-meter run on four separate occasions, including at each of the season's final three meets
•    Selstad's best 800-meter time of 1:48.69 was the best by any Big West Conference athlete in the event this season
•    Senior Andrew Thomas broke the school record in the 1500-meter run at the Aztec Invitational March 26, then improved on his time at the APU Last Chance meet, May 14
•    Junior Nolan Crespo joined Selstad and Thomas's record breaking at the APU Last Chance meet, becoming the fastest Triton ever in the 100-meter dash
•    Head coaches Tony Saerno and Darcy Ahner will retire following this season after leading the Tritons for more than a combined four decades
•    Three Tritons — Amari Jenkins (Apr. 26), Jake Selstad (May 10), and Lizzie Dolan (May 10) — earned Big West Track Athlete of the Week awards over the course of the season

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL Roster • Schedule
Head Coach: Kevin Ring (17th season) • Record: 13-11 (5-5 Big West)
•    UC San Diego was ranked as high as No. 8 in the country
•    The Tritons won five Big West Conference matches, the team’s most since the league began sponsoring the sport in 2018
•    UC San Diego recorded seven victories over nationally-ranked teams including No. 2 Long Beach State, No. 3 Hawaii (the eventual national champion), No. 11 BYU (twice), No. 12 Stanford, and No. 13 UC Irvine (twice)
•    Outside hitter Kyle McCauley earned AVCA All-America First Team as well as All-Big West First Team accolades
•    Middle blockers Shane Benetz and Logan Clark were All-Big West Honorable Mention selections while Matthew Lim was named to the Big West All-Freshman Team

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL Roster • Schedule

•    Playing its first NCAA Division I season after the 2020 campaign was canceled, UC San Diego won 10 matches, seven of those coming in Big West Conference contests
•    The Tritons strung together a pair of three-match win streaks
•    First-ever NCAA Division I victory was Sept. 10 over Southeastern Louisiana at the University of New Mexico Classic
•    Outside hitter Ava McInnes and middle blocker Emily McDaniel were named All-Big West Honorable Mention and selected to the Big West All-Freshman Team

MEN'S WATER POLO Roster • Schedule
Head Coach: Denny Harper (42nd season) • Record: 14-10 (6-2 Western Water Polo Association)
•    Five Tritons, including Calder Hilde-Jones, Vedran Latkovic, Kaden Likins, Alexander Nemeth, and Miles Wilson, were named All-Western Water Polo Association. The five selections were the most of the nine conference teams
•    Calder Hilde-Jones earned ACWPC All-America Honorable Mention
•    On Sept. 22, Vedran Latkovic scored with 15 seconds left in the game to lift the Tritons to a 14-13 win over LMU in front of 1,000 fans at Canyonview Aquatic Center
•    Following his 42nd season leading the Tritons, head coach Denny Harper announced he would be retiring
