Marsyla Captures 6K Win, Tritons Finish Fourth at Saint Mary's Invitational

CONCORD, Calif. — UC San Diego Cross Country finished another race strong with graduate student Elle Marsyla picking up her second individual win and both the men and women's team finding a fourth-place finish among tough competition at the Saint Mary's Invitational.
 
The field consisted of Saint Mary's, Chico State, Cal, UCLA, San Francisco, and more. In the women's 6k the Tritons finished with 101 points, Marsyla leading the Tritons. In the men's 8k, Oliver Clippinger-Zimmerman led UC San Diego to a 100-point finish.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – WOMEN'S RACE
Setting the race pace, Marsyla finished first with a 20:12.9. Sabrina Zanetto was the next Triton to finish, earning 17 points. Stefania Sesock, Shea Elmore, Michelle Huerta, and Dasha LeFaivre finished among the top 50, with Meilani Castillo rounding out the Tritons point scorers.
  
Also racing for the Tritons was Delaney Napierala, Camille Lindsay, Kaitlyn Carmichael, Kim Willard, and Annie Burton.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – MEN'S RACE
In the men's 8k, Clippinger-Zimmerman was the top finisher for the Tritons scoring 10 points with a 23:35.4. Following him with 16 and 20 points were Joseph Vargas and Tate Meaux, respectively. Ryan Stanley, Jeffrey Keeney, Shane Badcock, and Ben Borchers were also point-scorers for the Tritons.
 
Also racing for the Tritons was Ryan Chen, Wyatt Boling, Navin Kadel, Marco Franco, Ford Stegge, and Evan Gardner.

  • Marsyla and Clippinger-Zimmerman are back-to-back top finishers for the Tritons.
  • Both the men and women's sides had 13 Tritons racing in today's competition.

"Very pleased with the performance of both teams today. A pair of fourth place finishes amongst strong fields of competition is a good indicator of where we are as a team," head coach Nate Garcia '00 said. " With Elle and Oliver leading the way again, both teams worked well together and moved up through the field. Excited for Elle to get her second win of the season."
 
UP NEXT
The Tritons will travel to Terre Haute, Ind. for their next meet, the Nike XC Town Twilight. The meet is slated for Friday, Oct. 2. The Tritons first race will begin at 3 p.m. PST, with the women competing in the 6k, following them the men in the 8k will race at 3:40 p.m.
