SAN DIEGO — UC San Diego baseball fell to San Diego State, 9-1, on Tuesday evening in Tony Gwynn Stadium. The Tritons (15-17) managed just two hits, while allowing 14 for the Aztecs (20-18).

Evan Seneres (0-1) was credited with the loss in his second collegiate start, pitching 2.0 innings and allowing four runs—three earned—on four hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
Nathan Ries pitched 3.0 innings in relief, collected six strikeouts with no walks and allowing two runs.
Quincey Brown also pitched 2.0 innings of solid relief, allowing one run on three hits with one walk and a career high five strikeouts.
Jake Villar pitched the final frame, allowing two runs with one strikeout.

Alex Leopard and
Delshaun Lanier were responsible for the two hits for the Tritons, with seven runners left stranded.
Michael Crossland supplied the RBI with a sac-fly and
Raphael Dunne recorded a run scored in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Aztecs got on the board early, scoring two runs on two hits in the first inning. SDSU added a run in both the second and third innings and two more runs via a home run in the fourth to lead 6-0.Â

UC San Diego was held hitless through the first four innings before back-to-back singles to lead off the top of the fifth. A fly-out and two consecutive strikeouts ended the inning without a run for the Tritons.

Ries and the Tritons held SDSU scoreless in the fifth inning, but a leadoff home run in the sixth brought the score to 7-0 in favor of the home team. Brown stranded two runners on base with back-to-back strikeouts in the bottom of the seventhÂ

In the eighth, UC San Diego loaded the bases with one out before breaking through via a sacrifice fly from Crossland. However, the Tritons were unable to chip into the deficit further, trailing 7-1.Â

The Aztecs responded in the bottom of the inning, adding two runs on three hits to bring the score to 9-1.
