San Diego Crew Classic Takes Over Mission Bay this Weekend

SAN DIEGO. — The UC San Diego women's rowing team is set for this week's San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay.

The Tritons will send out four crews including Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8, Varsity 4, and Third Varsity 8.

UC San Diego gets underway Saturday at 10:08 a.m. with the Varsity 8+ Jessop-Whittier Cup/Cal Cup Collegiate Invitational. UC San Diego will be in heat two, going up against Washington, California, Wisconsin, and Sacramento State. Heat one is comprised of Texas-Austin, UCLA, Washington State, University of San Diego, and Wisconsin. The A final is slated for 9:23 a.m. Sunday while the B Final takes place Sunday at 9:43 a.m.

The Varsity 4+ Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup Prelim is slated for a 10:56 a.m. start. Along with UC San Diego, the field features Texas-Austin, Washington, California, UCLA, Washington State, San Diego, and Sacramento State. The final will be Sunday at 10:07 a.m.

The Tritons will be in heat one of the Second Varsity 8+ Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy race at 11:04 a.m. Saturday. They will be up against Texas-Austin, UCLA, and Washington State. The final will be run at 10:15 a.m. Sunday.

The last race for UC San Diego Saturday will be the Open 8+ Carley Copley Cup prelim at 12:08 p.m. The final will be Sunday at 11:27 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the Tritons' women's rowing program will dedicate a boat to Earl Edwards, the long-time Director of Athletics at UC San Diego.
