LA JOLLA, Calif.— After a Thursday bye, UC San Diego women's basketball returns to LionTree Arena to host UC Irvine in a Big West showdown on Saturday.
 
The Tritons (18-7, 13-2 Big West) remain in first place in the conference standings with five games to go and face off with the co-leading Anteaters (22-4, 13-2 Big West) at 4 p.m. in La Jolla for their Breast Cancer Awareness Game. The Tritons took a tightly contested 68-66 affair in Irvine earlier this season.

LAST TIME OUT
The Tritons remain the Big West leader, despite a triple-overtime loss at UC Davis, 88-80, last week. Erin Condron recorded her eighth double-double of the season, finishing with 22 points and 11 rebounds in 54 minutes. Makayla Rose also played all but one minute of the back-and-forth affair, recording 16 points, eight rebounds and six steals. The game saw 15 ties and 15 lead changes, with the Tritons leading for 34:14 minutes, compared to just 9:22 for the Aggies.
 
Rose followed up the performance on Saturday, recording her fourth 20-point performance of the season to propel the Tritons over UC Riverside, 79-68. Playing all 40 minutes against her former team, Rose scored a game-high 24 points, going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Lev Feiman had a breakout game, scoring a career-best 20 points, with four steals, three assists and one block. She shot 78 percent (7-for-9) from the field, 2-for-2 from three and 4-for-5 from the charity stripe.

Triton forward/center Erin Condron has been leading UC San Diego with an all-around outstanding junior season, averaging 15.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.4 blocks in 33.6 minutes per game. She has earned UCU Athlete of the Week five different times this season and Big West Player of the Week once. Condron set the Tritons' Division I scoring record with 32 points at Long Beach State (Feb. 5) and has scored in double-figures 22 times. She has tallied eight double-doubles and set career highs in points (32) and free throws made (14) at Long Beach State (Feb. 5), field goals made (11) against UC Riverside (Jan. 10), rebounds (15) at No. 22 Washington (Nov. 28), assists (5) against Long Beach State (Dec. 6) and steals (4) against UC Davis (Jan. 26). 
 
She currently leads the Big West and ranks 26th nationally in field goal percentage (55.4), ranks third in the conference in total rebounds (8.2 per game, 206 total). Condron also ranks second in the conference in total field goals (165), third in blocks (1.40 per game, 35 total) and seventh in scoring (15.7 per game, 393 total).
 
MAK ATTACK
Senior Makayla Rose has been pivotal in the Tritons success this season, leading UC San Diego in scoring on seven separate occasions with 13 double-figure scoring efforts and four 20-point performances. Rose is averaging 11.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 3.4 steals in a team-high 35.77 minutes per game. She has played the full 40 minutes in ten different contests, as well as all 45 in the overtime victory at Cal State Fullerton (Jan. 8) and 54 minutes in triple overtime at UC Davis (Feb. 12). She ranks second in the Big West in minutes per game (16th nationally).
 
Rose has shown why she is the defending Big West Defensive Player of the Year, ranking 11th nationally in total steals (84) and 12th in steals per game (3.36). She is also quickly approaching the Tritons' single season steals record (89), set last year by Sumayah Sugapong.
 
RED HOT ROSA
Redshirt junior Rosa Smith has had a strong junior campaign, averaging 11.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 0.9 steals in 31.5 minutes per game. She has scored in double-figures 14 times this season, with three 20-point performances.
 
Smith leads the team in three-point percentage (37.6) and ranks seventh in the conference in three-pointers (1.96 per game), ninth in field goal percentage (42.5), 11th in assists (2.8 per game) and 17th in scoring (11.8 per game).
 
DYMO DEALING DIMES
Point guard Dymonique Maxie currently leads the Big West with 4.4 assists per game, facilitating the Tritons' offense. The junior also ranks first in the conference with 110 total assists and second in assist/turnover ratio (1.72). Maxie set the Tritons' Division I single game record with 11 assists at Portland State (Nov. 30), finishing just three shy of the program's all-time record. She has recorded double-figure assists twice this season and surpassed her previous season high against UC Irvine (Jan. 24). 
 
UC San Diego currently leads the Big West in assist/turnover ratio (1.03) and ranks third in assists (14.2 per game).
 
SHARP SHOOTING SABRINA
Senior guard Sabrina Ma ranks fourth in the Big West in threes per game (2.36) and third in three-point baskets with 59 made threes this season. She ranks second in the conference in three-point attempts (173). Ma currently ranks fifth in the conference in three-point percentage, shooting 34.1 percent from beyond the arc. She has scored in double-figures 17 times this season with four 20-point performances and ranks 16th in the Big West with 12.1 points per game. 
 
RECORDS REACHED IN 2025-26
The Tritons have set several program records in the 2025-26 season, including Dymonique Maxie setting the program's Division I single game record with 11 assists at Portland State (Nov. 30). Erin Condron set the Tritons' Division I mark with 32 points and 14 made free throws at Long Beach State (Feb. 5) and Makayla Rose tallied nine steals against Hawai'i (Feb. 7), setting the program's single game record. 
 
UC San Diego also set the program's points record against a Division I opponent, scoring 94 points against the Vikings (Nov. 30) and recorded a program-high 22 steals and 31 turnovers forced against CSUN (Jan. 31). 
 
CONDRON EARNS FIRST CAREER BIG WEST WEEKLY NOD (FEB. 9)
Erin Condron set the Tritons' Division I single game record with 32 points at Long Beach State. The junior forward finished a career-high 14-for-16 from the free throw line—also a Tritons D-I program record—and shot 60 percent (9-for-15) from the field, recording her seventh double-double of the season with 13 rebounds against the Beach. Condron tallied her 20th double-figure scoring effort on Saturday against Hawai'i, finishing with 12 points, five rebounds and a career-best three blocks. For the week, she averaged 22.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 1.5 steals in 38.8 minutes per game. Condron currently ranks 28th nationally with a 55.0 field goal percentage.
 
RECORD-SETTING DUO TAKE UCU HONORS (FEB. 9)
The record-setting duo of Erin Condron and Makayla Rose were standouts for Tritons' women's basketball last week. On Thursday, Condron set the program's Division I record with 32 points and 14-of-16 from the free throw line to lead UC San Diego over Long Beach State, also recording her seventh double-double of the season with 13 rebounds. Rose set the program's single game record with nine steals—besting her own record from a week ago—leading the Tritons with 28 points against Hawai'i. For the week, Condron averaged 22.0 points and 9.0 rebounds, while Rose averaged 18.5 points and 6.0 steals.
 
ROSE NAMED SDSA STAR OF THE MONTH
Senior guard Makayla Rose was named one of the San Diego Sports Association's (SDSA), Stars of the Month for January after playing a key role to the Tritons' success to start 2026. Each month, the SDSA honors as many as 4 professional, 6 amateur, and 6 prep athletes as Stars of the Month for their outstanding athletic accomplishments. Stars of the Month are recognized in the San Diego Union Tribune, via the Fowler Family Awards Center, on the Sports Association's social media channels and website, and at San Diego's premier sports awards gala, Salute to the Champions. They also receive a Breitbard Certificate of Athletic Achievement.
 
ROSE EARNS FIRST UCU WEEKLY HONOR (FEB. 2)
Makayla Rose played a pivotal role in UC San Diego's 2-0 week, helping the Tritons secure sole possession of first place in the Big West and earning her first UCU Athlete of the Week nod. The senior guard scored the game-winner with 6.5 seconds on the clock at UC Santa Barbara on Thursday, finishing with a team-high 11 points and playing all 40 minutes. She also set the Tritons' single-game record with eight steals—a career high—against CSUN on Saturday, leading the team with 18 points. For the week, she averaged 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 4.0 steals in 37.1 minutes per game.
 
BACK-TO-BACK UCU HONORS FOR CONDRON (JAN. 17)
Erin Condron earned her fourth UCU Athlete of the Week award of the season and second-straight honor after averaging nearly a double-double with 17.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in another 2-0 week for UC San Diego. Condron also tallied six blocks to lead the Big West for the week. In Thursday's victory at CSUN, Condron recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 13 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. On Saturday, she led the Tritons with 21 points—her second 20-point performance of the season—and eight rebounds, adding three blocks and two assists to defeat Cal State Bakersfield. She currently leads the Big West with a 56.2 field goal percentage, which ranks 30th nationally.
 
THIRD WEEKLY HONOR FOR CONDRON (JAN. 12)
Erin Condron averaged 16.5 points and 8.0 rebounds to lead UC San Diego to another 2-0 week in Big West play. The junior forward set a new career high with 22 points in Saturday's victory over UC Riverside, adding 12 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. She shot 57.7 percent from the field (15-for-26), also averaging 2.0 blocks and 2.0 assists in 36.2 minutes per game. Condron currently leads the Big West with a 56.5 field goal percentage, which ranks 28th nationally.
 
SMITH EARNS SECOND UCU WEEKLY HONOR (JAN. 5)
Redshirt junior Rosa Smith had another stellar week, averaging 17.5 points, 6.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals in 36.2 minutes per game. Smith led the team in points (35) and assists (12), while shooting 8-of-16 (.500) from three-point range to help the Tritons to a 2-0 week in Big West play. Smith recorded her second 20-point performance of the season, finishing with 21 points and a season-best eight assists in Thursday's 75-54 victory over Cal Poly. She finished in double figures again on Saturday, tallying 14 points and four assists in a 65-54 victory at Hawai'i.
 
CONDRON EARNS SECOND UCU WEEKLY NOD (DEC. 22)
Junior Erin Condron averaged nearly a double-double with 15.5 points and 9.5 rebounds to lead UC San Diego in the final week of non-conference play. Condron shot 53.8 percent from the field, adding five assists, three steals and two blocks in two games for the Tritons. In Monday's 67-59 victory at California Baptist, Condron tallied a team-best 15 points and 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. On Saturday against NAU, she led the Tritons once again with 16 points, six rebounds and two blocks. 
 
SMITH NAMED UCU ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (DEC. 8)
UC San Diego guard Rosa Smith recorded her Triton career high with 27 points in UC San Diego's Big West-opening win over Long Beach State. The redshirt junior finished 11-for-18 from the field (61 percent) with four 3-pointers in 32 minutes. Smith also tallied five assists, four rebounds and two steals in the contest. It marked her fourth consecutive double-figure scoring effort and fifth this season. 
 
CONDRON EARNS UCU ATHLETE OF THE WEEK (DEC. 1)
Junior Erin Condron averaged a double-double in an outstanding week, with 16.3 points and 11.7 rebounds over three games. The Tritons' forward recorded career highs in rebounds (15) and steals (3) against No. 22 Washington and tallied a career high in field goals made (8) against Occidental. Condron shot 57 percent from the field (21-for-37), totaling 49 points, 35 rebounds (9 offensive), three blocks, three steals and two assists.
 
EXPERIENCED ROSTER
UC San Diego returns seven Tritons from the 2024-25 squad that recorded the program's first 20-win season of the Division I era. Starters Gracie Gallegos and Sabrina Ma return, as well as All-Big West preseason honoree Erin Condron. Last season Ma was named Big West Newcomer of the Year and All-Big West Honorable Mention alongside Gallegos, who earned a spot on the Big West Championship All-Tournament Team. 
 
FRESH FACES
The Tritons added six talented newcomers to the squad during the offseason, signing two transfer scholar-athletes and four incoming true freshmen for the 2025-26 season. UC San Diego added 2024-25 Big West Defensive Player of the Year, Makayla Rose (UC Riverside) for her senior season and junior guard Dymonique Maxie (Nevada). Guard Michaela Fairwell (Irmo, S.C.), guard Lev Feiman (Woodland Hills, Calif.), forward Tatum Jones (Aurora, Colo.) and guard/forward Niya Price (Lancaster, Calif.) round out the freshman class for the Tritons.
 
CONDRON NAMED TO PRESEASON COACHES' TEAM
Junior forward Erin Condron was named to the Big West Women's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Team, selected by the conference's 11 head coaches. Condron had a breakout sophomore season for the Tritons in 2024-25, averaging 8.1 points and 4.7 rebounds in 18.6 minutes per game. Condron appeared in 22 games after missing the first 14 games due to injury, recording 10 double-figure scoring efforts and one double-double.
 
TRITONS PICKED FOURTH IN PRESEASON POLL
The defending Big West champions were picked to finished fourth in the Big West Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning 77 points and two first-place votes. Hawai'i was picked to finish first with 91 points and four of the 11 first-place votes, followed closely by UC Irvine with 90 points and four first-place votes as well. UC Davis received one first-place vote and 83 points for third, while UC San Diego received the remaining two first-place votes to rank fourth.
 
UC Santa Barbara was picked to finish fifth with 61 points, followed by Long Beach State (57 points), UC Riverside (51), Cal Poly (34), CSUN (27), Cal State Fullerton (20), Cal State Bakersfield (14).
 
HISTORY MADE
The Tritons women's basketball team had a historical 2024-25 campaign, winning the Big West Championship as the No. 4 seed and recording the first 20-win season of the program's Division I era. UC San Diego made history as the first program to send both its men's and women's basketball teams to the NCAA Tournament in their first season of Division I eligibility.
 
WINNING IN THE CLASSROOM
The Tritons excelled in the classroom in 2024-25, with six scholar-athletes being named to the Big West Winter All-Academic Team, including current Tritons Erin Condron, Gracie Gallegos, Junaé Mahan and Rosa Smith. Additionally, 15 Tritons were named to the Big West Commissioner's Honor Roll with 10 earning Highest Honors (3.51-4.00 GPA) including Gracie Gallegos, Sabrina Ma, Nicki Polocheck, Rosa Smith and Damilola Sule.
 
UC SAN DIEGO HEADED TO THE WCC
On Sept. 3, 2025, UC San Diego accepted a formal invitation to join the West Coast Conference (WCC) beginning July 1, 2027. UC San Diego will compete in 14 of the West Coast Conference's 16 sponsored sports, including men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball, men's and women's cross country, men's water polo, baseball, softball, men's and women's tennis, men's golf and women's rowing. The university remains committed to finding a conference affiliation for its sports that will not compete in the West Coast Conference.
 
Beginning in 2027-28, the WCC membership will consist of: University of California San Diego, Loyola Marymount University, University of the Pacific, Pepperdine University, University of Portland, Saint Mary's College, University of San Diego, University of San Francisco, Santa Clara University, and Seattle University. UC San Diego will become the first public institution in the West Coast Conference since the departure of the University of Nevada-Reno in 1979.
 
ANDY FEE NAMED ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AT UC SAN DIEGO 
On Sept. 10, 2025, UC San Diego Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla announced the hiring of college sports veteran Andy Fee as the Tritons' new Director of Athletics. Fee will become just the fourth Director of Athletics at UC San Diego since 1966. Fee joins the Tritons after spending the 2024-25 season as Deputy AD at Seattle University. Prior to Seattle U, Fee spent two years at Washington as Deputy AD and Chief of Staff. 
 
Before relocating to Seattle, Fee spent five years as Director of Athletics at Long Beach State from 2017 to 2022. During this time, Long Beach State's athletic programs found great success as the school advanced to the postseason in 18 of its 19 sports programs in his five-year tenure. The Beach won a pair of national championships in men's volleyball and claimed The Big West Commissioner's Cup three times. 
 
No stranger to conference transition, Fee will help guide the Tritons into the West Coast Conference in 2027-28. He also helped guide Washington into the Big Ten and Seattle U into the WCC in July.
 
About UC San Diego Athletics
After two decades as one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division II, the UC San Diego intercollegiate athletics program began a new era in 2020 as a member of The Big West in NCAA Division I.
