Tritons Shut Out Point Loma in Home Opener

LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego captured a win over Point Loma in their first home match of the season, clinching the match 4-0. The Tritons took the doubles point and continued to dominate in singles, winning all three finished matches in straight sets.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UC San Diego started the match strong winning the doubles point. Freshman Olivia Allegre and junior Julia Visaya took court 6-2, grad student Hana Gamracy and freshman Carling Allaye-Chan followed with a 6-3 victory on court two to earn the Tritons' first point. This left Varsha Jawadi and Kamya Nair unfinished on court three where they led 5-2.
 
Lansky at No. 3 earned the Tritons their next point 6-2, 6-2. Following at No. 2 Allaye-Chan also topped her opponent 6-2, 6-2 to make it 3-0 Tritons. Lian clinched the match at No. 5 with a 6-3, 6-0 straight-set victory. The three remaining singles were left unfinished but no Triton dropped a set before play ended.
 
TRITON TIDBITS
  • The Tritons used a new lineup for the first time this spring, in doubles Allaye-Chan and Gamracy played No. 2 and Nair and Jawadi played No. 3, in singles Lansky played No. 3, Visaya No. 4, Lian No. 5, and Nair No. 6.
  • The Tritons improve their home record against Point Loma to 11-1.
 
UP NEXT
UC San Diego will stay close to home for their next match against San Diego State on Saturday, Jan. 31. The match is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Aztec Tennis Center.
