Tritons Battle Dons to Scoreless Draw in Non-Conference Finale

LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego (2-3-4) could not capitalize against San Francisco (1-4-2) at Triton Soccer Stadium, ending Sunday's match at a 0-0 tie to finish off non-conference play. UC San Diego is now 1-3-1 all-time against USF.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UC San Diego dealt with another physical visiting side on Sunday — USF racked up seven fouls in the first half and another nine in the second. No matter, the Tritons broke out for seven shots, including a set-piece free kick from Natalie Abel that hit the crossbar in the 29th minute.

The Dons put on the pressure as the second half progressed, racking up six corners and two shots on goal. A well-driven shot into the bottom right corner required a full extension save from Charlotte Wilfert in the 82nd minute.

A few minutes later, Jenna Grider made a vital clearance in the six-yard box to prevent a late-game Don goal.

TRITON TIDBITS
  • Lauren Rocco made her 2025 debut in the 66th minute of Sunday's match.

  • The Tritons wore their navy-blue kits, with goalkeeper Charlotte Wilfert in red, for Sunday's match.

QUOTABLE
"We were a tired team out there today, and my challenge to the team is when we are fatigued, we need to find a way to bring out the best disciplined version of ourselves," said UC San Diego head coach Kristin Jones '04. "When our legs went, our thought went. We did do a really good job of defending corners and free kicks late in the game. We did what we needed to do to tie, but between now and Thursday, we've got to figure out what we need to do to win."
