Tritons, Lumberjacks Battle to Scoreless Draw

LA JOLLA, Calif. – In its second match of the season, UC San Diego women's soccer battled visiting Northern Arizona to a scoreless draw Thursday night in a non-conference contest at Triton Soccer Stadium. UC San Diego is now 0-1-1 on the young season while the Lumberjacks are 1-1-1 in 2025.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Neither team found the back of the net over the first 45 minutes in a period that saw just six total shots. NAU goalkeeper Reece Reichwald made two saves, and the Tritons had the only corner of the period.

The pace picked up in the second half, with NAU earning four quick corners and UC San Diego keeper Charlotte Wilfer making three saves to keep the match level.

NAU held a 10-7 advantage in shots, with Wilfert registering five saves and her first clean sheet.

TRITON TIDBITS
  • Northern Arizona had six corner kicks to UC San Diego's one. All six NAU corners came after halftime.
  • UC San Diego has posted 18 clean sheets in the program's Division I era (2021-present).
  • The Tritons remain unbeaten against the Lumberjacks at 1-0-1 in the series.
  • The Tritons wore their new navy kits with goalkeeper Charlotte Wilfert in red.
QUOTABLE
"Overall, this wasn't our best performance," said UC San Diego head coach Kristin Jones '04. "I thought we lacked a lot of the intensity we showed last week [vs. Cal]. Having said that, we did a really nice job defending their corners and we'll need to continue that moving forward."

UP NEXT
The Tritons return to the pitch Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. when they host UNLV inside Triton Soccer Stadium. Admission is free, and the match will air live on ESPN+ with Steve Quis and Natasha Belak-Berger.
