Kim Named Finalist for Women’s Foil Collegiate Newcomer of the Year

LA JOLLA, Calif. — The United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) has released the list of finalists for the 2024-25 NCAA Awards, and UC San Diego's Katherine Kim is on the short list for Women's Foil Collegiate Newcomer of the Year.
 
All awards are voted on by USFCA member coaches. Winners will be announced the week of May 5. Joining Kim as finalists in her category are Northwestern's Daphne Chan and Columbia's Carolina Stutchbury.
 
Kim joined the Tritons ahead of the 2024-25 season as a freshman from Tustin, California. She graduated from Tustin Connect High School and fenced with Golubitsky Fencing Center. At UC San Diego, Kim is majoring in human biology in Sixth College.
 
Her first collegiate season saw Kim qualify for the National Collegiate Fencing Championships, where she finished seventh to earn Second Team All-American honors. Kim was also a First Team All-Region and First Team All-MPSF selection and was named the MPSF Women's Fencer of the Year.
 
The foilist won the women's foil competition at the NCAA West Regional Championship and finished second at the MPSF Championship. She was also instrumental in helping the Tritons capture the first team MPSF Championship in program history.
 
Kim represents Team USA at the international level and has amassed numerous notable finishes in national and international competitions at both the junior and senior level.
