LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego celebrated Senior Day with a critical 5-2 victory over CSUN on Saturday at Northview Tennis Courts. The Tritons won the doubles point and then got victories from their four graduating scholar-athletes in singles to earn the program's first Division I win over the Matadors.
In the process, UC San Diego established new Division I program bests for wins in a season (11), Big West wins (five), and home winning percentage (.778).

HOW IT HAPPENED
UC San Diego took the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Seniors
Adriana Tabares and
Katelyn Vu got the day started with their 6-3 win at second doubles. The Tritons clinched the point with a 6-2 win at No. 3 by senior
Naomi Nguyen and freshman
Allison Lian.
In singles, Tabares gave UC San Diego a 2-0 lead in the match when she captured a 6-0, 7-6 (3) win at No. 5. The Tritons went up 3-0 when grad student
Julia Haynes was a 6-2, 6-2 winner on court one. The Matadors cut UC San Diego's lead to 3-2 with victories at No. 3 and No. 4.
It was fitting that Vu, the program's all-time leader in Division I singles wins, clinched the win. Vu was a 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (5) winner at No. 6. Leung closed out the team win with her 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 triumph at No. 2.

UC San Diego will compete in The Big West Women's Tennis Championship for the first time. The Tritons are the No. 5 seed in the tournament and will play the 8-seed in the opening round on Thursday, April 24 at Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego. First serve is slated for Noon PDT.
