HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first inning, the Roadrunners established an early lead with an RBI single after a series of base hits. The Tritons, however, started the game quietly, going down in order without registering a hit.
The second inning saw a surge of offense. After CSUB extended their lead with a four-run inning, capped by a three-run homer, the Tritons responded. Camacho was hit by a pitch, and Crossland followed with a two-run homer to right field, putting UC San Diego on the board and bringing the score to 5-2.
In the fourth inning, the Tritons' offense continued to produce as Crossland homered again, another two-run shot that made it 5-4.
Cal State Bakersfield got three runs back in the sixth inning with another three-run homer to extend its lead, 8-4. The Tritons rallied in the bottom of the inning after
J.C. Allen doubled and eventually scored on a groundout by
Emiliano Gonzalez.
Patrick Hackworth followed with an RBI double which brought Camacho home. These runs brought UC San Diego within one, at 8-7.
Despite the effort, the Roadrunners scored another run in the eighth and two more in the ninth to hold off the Tritons' comeback, resulting in an 11-7 final score.
