Homestand Begins with Win over Villanova

LA JOLLA, Calif. — UC San Diego men's tennis kicked off a month-long homestand on Thursday morning with a 6-1 win over Villanova. The win moved the Tritons to 3-4 on the year and a perfect 2-0 at home.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles
The Tritons had an easy time in doubles as both No. 1 and 3 picked up 6-2 victories. Zach Pellouchoud and Pelayo Rodriguez finished their match first on court one, followed by Diogo Tinoco and Carson Lee on court three.

David Adamson and Robert Freedman's No. 2 doubles match went unfinished as a result of the Tritons having already clinched the doubles point. The Tritons were ahead 4-3 at the time.

Singles
The momentum from doubles continued with three straight-set victories to start singles play. Pellouchoud started the Tritons off on court three with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Lee was next at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 result. Freedman then won 6-1, 6-4 to clinch the dual match on court four.

The three remaining singles matches were played to the end, and all of them went three sets. Charles Qian lost set one 5-7 at No. 6 singles before cruising past his opponent 6-0 in set two. The match was decided by a first-to-10 tiebreaker, which Qian won 10-6.

No. 5 singles was nearly a straight-set win, but Adamson lost 5-7 in a set one tiebreaker. The freshman bounced back with a 6-2 win in set two and a 10-5 result in the third.

Villanova's lone victory came at No. 2 singles. Pelayo Rodriguez and his opponent each won a set 6-4 before the Wildcat was victorious 10-3 in set three.
