Tritons Fall to Toreros

LA JOLLA, CALIF. - UC San Diego softball (2-13) fell to University of San Diego (6-11) by a score of 6-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Triton Softball Field in La Jolla, Calif.

The Tritons have an overall record of 2-13. University of San Diego holds an overall record of 6-11.

Haley Garcia led the Tritons with three hits and one RBI, contributing significantly in the batter's box. Reilly Erickson added a run, a hit, and an RBI, showing effectiveness with runners in scoring position. Zara Wasserman recorded a double, providing an extra-base hit for the team. India Caldwell  covered 5.1 innings while allowing two earned runs and striking out three batters. Callie Christian pitched 1.2 innings, striking out two and allowing one earned run.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Toreros held the lead over six innings sitting at 6-0 scattering runs over the first, fourth, and fifth.

The Tritons left a total of 10 runs on over the 7 innings with two early innings leaving three runs on back-to-back. Finally getting on the board in the sixth, the gold and blue were able to bring in two runs.

Reilly Erickson laced a single up the middle to bring in pinch runner Samantha Womack to score. Haley Garcia kept it going as she sent a hot hit to third base to bring Erickson in.

Pinch runner Lexi Ellenwood was able to make it to third in bottom of the seventh inning but was left stranded as the final out was tallied.

UP NEXT
The Tritons start a new season as Big West conference play begins at home in La Jolla against Cal State Fullerton. The three-game series starts on Friday, March 7 with a 5 p.m. matchup followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, March 8 set to being at 1 p.m.
