CHARLOTTE, N.C. — UC San Diego fencing had nine representatives at USA Fencing's annual Junior Olympics and North American Cup (NAC), held Feb. 14-17 in Charlotte. Freshman
Ben Kim had the best performance of the weekend, taking home bronze in junior men's epee.
The Junior Olympics is USA Fencing's most prestigious event for the junior (born 2005-11) and cadet (2008-11) levels. The concurrently-running NAC is one of several senior-level competitions the organization hosts throughout the year.
Freshmen
Dayus Gohel (men's epee) and
Katherine Kim (women's foil) joined
Ben Kim in earning top 10 finishes in the junior portion of the weekend. Junior
Zara Fearns (women's saber) had the best NAC result of the Triton contingent, finishing 27th.
All nine Tritons competed in the NAC. Six of those fencers also entered the junior division of the Junior Olympics.

The next team event for UC San Diego is the NCAA Regional and MPSF Championships March 8-9 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The NCAA Regional Championship qualifies fencers for the NCAA National Championships, which will be held March 20-23 in University Park, Pennsylvania.
