Nine Tritons Conclude Time at Junior Olympics, NAC

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — UC San Diego fencing had nine representatives at USA Fencing's annual Junior Olympics and North American Cup (NAC), held Feb. 14-17 in Charlotte. Freshman Ben Kim had the best performance of the weekend, taking home bronze in junior men's epee.

The Junior Olympics is USA Fencing's most prestigious event for the junior (born 2005-11) and cadet (2008-11) levels. The concurrently-running NAC is one of several senior-level competitions the organization hosts throughout the year.

Freshmen Dayus Gohel (men's epee) and Katherine Kim (women's foil) joined Ben Kim in earning top 10 finishes in the junior portion of the weekend. Junior Zara Fearns (women's saber) had the best NAC result of the Triton contingent, finishing 27th.

All nine Tritons competed in the NAC. Six of those fencers also entered the junior division of the Junior Olympics.
