Tritons Post Clean Sheet in Win at SDSU

SAN DIEGO – For the second match in a row, UC San Diego senior Raquel Kalpakoff scored a first half goal. This time, the Tritons were able to make that tally hold up as UC San Diego earned a 1-0 win over San Diego State Thursday night atop the SDSU Sports Deck. Sophomore goalkeeper Bella Barretto made a career-high six saves in posting her first clean sheet.

The win was the Tritons' first-ever over the Aztecs as UC San Diego (2-5-1) earned its first road victory of the season. The Aztecs (1-4-1) have dropped four straight.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UC San Diego struck first, getting a goal from senior Raquel Kalpakoff in the 18th minute. Allie Luo brought the ball up the left side, feeding captain Courtney Hilliard whose touch pass into the box met the left foot of Kalpakoff for her team-best fourth goal of the season.

In the 22', the Aztecs had a great scoring chance as Trinity Coker sent a shot in through traffic from inside the box, but Triton goalkeeper Bella Barretto dove to her right, getting airborne to make a terrific save.

Barretto made three first saves as the Tritons led one-nil at the halfway point. UC San Diego pressured throughout the first 45, controlling possession for 57% of the half. The Tritons earned five first half corners, while not allowing any.

The Tritons maintained their offensive pressure for portions of the second half, while the Aztecs attempted to pick up the pace on their offensive third. UC San Diego's back line held strong as the Tritons posted their second clean sheet in 2024.
