Fencing Adds Julia Hill to Coaching Staff

LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego head fencing coach Juan Ignacio Calderon announced the addition of former Triton scholar-athlete Julia Hill as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

During her collegiate fencing career in La Jolla, Hill was able to accumulate an 82-44 overall record competing in the saber which included a pair of appearances representing UC San Diego at the NCAA Qualifiers in both 2021 and 2022. She turned in a stand out campaign during the 2021-22 season as she boasted a 32-16 overall record while fencing in various competitions, including the Western Invite, Elite Invite and the Northwestern Invitational.

"I am thrilled to welcome Julia into our coaching staff for this season," Calderon said. "As a scholar-athlete she had a tremendous impact on our team, not only with her stellar performances but even more importantly with the impact she had on the culture and identity of the team."

Excelling in the classroom as well as on the strip as a Triton, Hill earned multiple spots on the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) All-Academic Team.

A native of San Clemente, Hill is currently pursuing her Master's in Public Policy at UC San Diego's School of Global Policy and Strategy.
