LA JOLLA, Calif. – Junior foilist Kyra Wu has been honored by the United States Fencing Coaches Association as the woman's recipient of the 2024 Community Service Recognition Award for the 2024 spring season. 

The USFCA announced the winners on Monday afternoon, which included top contenders from across the country who put together a strong season on and off the strips. 

Helping to lead the way for the UC San Diego fencing team's community service efforts, Wu volunteered to organize the team's community service efforts by putting a plan together and contacted organizations throughout the San Diego area to assist. 

The Tritons helped work with the San Diego Food Bank, Home Start and the La Jolla YMCA's local health fair. UC San Diego fencing scholar-athletes helped with food distribution and assisted in Home Start's annual fundraiser to help prevent child abuse. 

Kyra's a San Diego native and has been active in her community throughout her collegiate career, and looks to further expand the program's footprint in the community heading into her final year as a Triton scholar-athlete.
