Baseball Drops Game Two to Sun Devils

UC San Diego fell to Arizona State, 19-8, on Wednesday evening

PHOENIX— UC San Diego baseball fell to Arizona State, 19-8, in seven innings on Wednesday evening in Phoenix Municipal Stadium. The Tritons (26-16) dropped the shortened contest via run rule to the Sun Devils (24-22) in the second game of the midweek series.

Brock Kleszcz finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Emiliano Gonzalez and Anthony Potestio each knocked a double and collected two RBI.

Ryan Farmer was the bright spot in a tough night on the mound for the Tritons, pitching 2.2 innings and allowing one run on four hits with no walks and one strikeout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
For the second consecutive game, UC San Diego got on the board first with a sac-fly by Crossland in the top of the first inning. However, it was all ASU after that. The Sun Devils scored seven runs on five hits and one error in the bottom of the first to take the lead for good.

Arizona State added four more runs in the second, two in the third, five in the fourth and one more in the sixth.

The Tritons rallied for three runs on one hit and one error in the top of the fifth, highlighted by a pinch-hit RBI single through the right side by Rosengard.

UC San Diego added four more runs in the top of the seventh—all with two outs—as the Tritons attempted to prevent the run rule ending. An RBI double by Potestio, followed by an RBI single by Kleszcz and a two-RBI double by Gonzalez made it 19-8. However, a groundout ended the rally for the Tritons and sealed the victory for ASU.
