LA JOLLA, Calif. – Wrapping up the 2024 spring season, the UC San Diego men's tennis team came up short in their season finale against Cal Poly by a 4-2 score on Monday afternoon at the Northview Tennis Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set to compete in their final match of the season, both teams came out strong in doubles with competitive matches up-and-down the lineup. Leading the way for UC San Diego was the pairing of 
Zach Pellouchoud and 
Pelayo Rodriguez, who earned a 6-3 victory on court one to set the tone of the Tritons. Cal Poly went on to win on court one and three to clinch the doubles point and the early lead.
 
In singles, UC San Diego continued their stellar effort early on as 
Carson Lee earned a huge three set victory at number one against a top-notch opponent. 
Diogo Tinoco also picked up an impressive two set win against his opponent at number three to account for the Tritons' two points on the day as the Mustangs earned the 4-2 victory on Monday.

"I'm proud of how the guys competed today start to finish," UC San Diego head men's tennis coach 
Timmer Willing said. "It was a long three-day string of matches and I felt we were better today mentally than any of the other days. Cal Poly deserves a lot of credit for hanging in and weathering a storm we created and they found a way to win today."
 
TRITON TIDBITS
	- With their doubles win tonight, the pairing of Pelayo Rodriguez and Zach Pellouchoud ends their season with a record of 11-8.  
 
	- Diogo Tinoco was able to end his season with a strong performance to earn the two set win and improve his record to 12-13.
 
	- UC San Diego finished the season with a total of nine wins, which marks a one-win improvement over the previous year.
