LA JOLLA, Calif. – Beset by injuries, UC San Diego persevered to earn a 5-2 victory over Weber State Wednesday morning at Northview Tennis Courts. The Tritons won doubles on courts three and two before winning the first three singles matches to clinch the win over the defending Big Sky Conference champions.
 
The victory stopped a four-match slide for UC San Diego.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UC San Diego clinched the doubles point with wins at the second and third positions. Grad student Sophie Pearson and junior Naomi Nguyen were quick 6-1 winners at No. 3 over Kenadee Semenik and Jessica Hill. Weber State evened things with a 6-2 win by Megan Davies and Ana Morett on court one. All eyes shifted to No. 2, where UC San Diego earned the point thanks to a 7-5 win by junior Kelly Leung and sophomore Cincy Chen over WSU's Dylan Lolofie and Sicely Ferreira.

In singles action, the Tritons took a 2-0 lead when freshman Polina Jorniak subbed in at No. 6 and earned a 7-5, 6-2 win over Cindy Ping An. UC San Diego extended its lead thanks to junior captain Katelyn Vu's 6-1, 7-6 (4) win at No. 5 over Sydney Schnell. Sophomore Grace Gamal clinched the win for the home team with her 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Lolofie at No. 3. Pearson was also a winner for the Tritons, 3-6, 6-0, 7-5 at No. 4.
