LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego played its first match of the spring at Northview Tennis Courts Saturday morning, and the Tritons earned a 4-3 victory over visiting Pomona-Pitzer. The victory was the first for UC San Diego head coach
Sebastian Bader.
Competing in NCAA Division III, the Sagehens are third in the preseason ITA rankings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
For the second consecutive match, UC San Diego took the doubles point with wins on courts three and two. On three, captain
Sophie Pearson and junior
Naomi Nguyen won 6-2. On two, junior
Kelly Leung and freshman
Polina Jorniak were also 6-2 winners to clinch the doubles point and give the Tritons a 1-0 lead in the match.
In singles play, Jorniak was a 6-1, 6-3 winner on court six to put the Tritons on top, 2-0. It wasn't long before junior
Katelyn Vu won again. Playing at No. 5, Vu was victorious, 6-2, 6-2. UC San Diego clinched the win with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph by Leung at first singles.
