Tritons Fall at Long Beach State

LONG BEACH, Calif. – UC San Diego resumed Big West play on Saturday with a 7-0 loss at Long Beach State at Rhodes Tennis Center. The Tritons battled hard, with three singles matches going to a decisive third set.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beach won on all three doubles courts to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The hosts then clinched the win with singles wins on courts two, one and three.

Starting her second straight match at sixth singles, sophomore Cincy Chen dropped her first set 7-5 before rebounding to take the second set by the same score. In the super tiebreaker, Chen fell 10-8. In similar fashion, at No. 4, Katelyn Vu lost her first set 7-6 (5), won the second 7-6 (4), before falling in the super tie break, 10-7.

"Today we didn't play as well as we're capable of playing, and against a good team like Long Beach, that showed" said UC San Diego head coach Sebastian Bader. "They played better doubles than us and we were outplayed in some of the singles matches. We'll make some adjustments and be ready for Cal State Fullerton on Monday."
