LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego men's soccer wrapped the 2024 season on Saturday, Nov. 2 as they drew even at 2-2 with UC Irvine after a hot first half start.
The Tritons finish with a record of 4-9-5 overall and 3-5-1 in Big West.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Max Carvalho opened the match in the ninth minute with a goal inside the 18-yard box on a cross from
Andrew Valverde.
James Redington made the goal possible as he ran down the ball along the right side of the field on a pass from
Adam Hillis. Redington was able to get the ball to Valverde through some defensive deflection and Valverde's chip found Carvalho for the goal.
A short two minutes later, Valverde earned his own goal as Hillis sent him on a run and he was able to get the touch and finish the shot.
Before the half was over, UC Irvine evened the score at 2-2 with goals in 24th and 40th minutes.
In the second half, UCI shifted into a defensive position as they only needed a draw to clinch a spot in the Big West Championship. The Tritons continued to press with 12 shots forcing two saves. Neither side was able to find the game-winner and 90 minutes finished with the score tied.
