LA JOLLA, Calif. – Playing their penultimate home match, the Tritons battled UC Davis to a scoreless draw in women's soccer action Sunday afternoon inside Triton Soccer Stadium. UC San Diego sophomore goalkeeper
Ginny Fronk notched a season-high seven saves in posting her second clean sheet – and the team's fourth – of the season.
The result was the Tritons' second consecutive against the Aggies. UC San Diego sits at 2-11-3 overall and 0-5-2 in Big West action. UC Davis (9-4-1, 2-2-1) played to a draw for the first time this season. The Aggies had won three of their last five entering Sunday's action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was the Aggies who applied early pressure as UC Davis got four early shots. Triton goalkeeper
Ginny Fronk proved up to the task, making five first half saves. UC San Diego settled in and controlled possession for 54% of the half. The Tritons had three shots on frame and Davis keeper Caeley Goldstein came up with three saves. The Aggies out-shot the Tritons, 7-5, in a scoreless first half.
In the second half, it was a different story – though the same result. The Triton offense exploded for 20 second half shots – including nine on target – but Goldstein kept the match level. Perhaps the Tritons' best second half scoring chance came in the 84th minute when junior back
Allie Luo fed senior
Raquel Kalpakoff who redirected with a header on frame.
On the other end, Fronk kept the Aggies off the scoreboard with some splendid play of her own. She finished with a season high seven saves.
