Tritons Wrap Non-Conference Play

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Wrapping up non-conference play, the Tritons fell to Utah Tech in a 2-1 loss on Saturday, Sep. 23 after the Trailblazers made a second-half comeback.
 
UC San Diego drops to 1-6-2 and USD improves to 4-4.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Striking early, the Tritons made it on the board first with a goal in the 12th minute when Andrew McGee found Iñaki Iribarren in the box. The senior chipped the pass in out of the keeper's reach to put the Tritons on top at 1-0.
 
Pressured remained equal between the two teams with 8 shots by the Trailblazers to the Tritons' seven in the first half.
 
The Tritons remained on top until the 61st minute when Utah Tech found the equalizer. UC San Diego put together two other good looks in back-to-back minutes with no result. In the 87th minute, the Trailblazers took the lead and were able to put the game away on the late goal.
 
In the second half, the Tritons fell to five shots while the Trailblazers tallied 10. Overall both teams tallied five shots on goal in 90 minutes.
