UC San Diego Falls to San Jose State

LA JOLLA, Calif. – In their second game of the season, the Tritons fell to the San Jose State Spartans in a 2-1 result at Triton Soccer Stadium on Saturday night.

SJSU moves to 1-0-1 and UC San Diego moves to 0-2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
San Jose State struck early in the eighth minute to go ahead 1-0. Looking for an insurance goal, a scramble after a shot resulted in a penalty kick for the visitors in the 22nd minute. Mitchell Wilson kept the Tritons with in one when he made a diving save to spoil the PK.

20 minutes later, the Tritons earned their own penalty kick after a yellow card foul was committed on Iñaki Iribarren in the box. Alessandro Allen stepped up to bury the goal and bring the Tritons even at 1-1.

In the second 45, the Tritons went down a player after a second yellow card for Asa Gibson turned into a red card. UC San Diego held SJSU off until the 68th minute when the Spartans were able to find the go-ahead goal.

The Spartans had a total of 21 shots with seven on goal while the Tritons took five shots with two on target. A total of 24 fouls were committed between the two teams with 15 happening in the second half.
