SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.—UC San Diego baseball defeated Cal Poly, 5-1, on Friday evening at Baggett Stadium. With the win, the Tritons (23-16, 12-7 Big West) moved to 5-3 in the all-time series with the Mustangs (14-25, 8-11 Big West).

Doyle Kane finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while
Brandon Larson went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.

Starter
Ryan Forcucci (3-1) went 6.0 innings, allowing just one run on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Izaak Martinez earned a save, shutting out the Mustangs in the final three innings and allowing one hit with five strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tritons threatened early, loading the bases in the top of the first with one out but were unable to bring in a run. It was Cal Poly that got on the board first, scoring on a solo homerun in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead.

UC San Diego answered right away in the top of the third, scoring two runs on a double to left field by Kane. Larson brought in two more with a home run to right center to make it 4-1.Â

The Tritons drew three consecutive walks to load the bases with two outs in the top of the fifth, however they were unable to add to their lead.

UC San Diego threatened one more time in the top of the ninth, loading the bases with two outs. Larson drew a walk to force in a run and extend UC San Diego's lead, 5-1, but the Tritons were unable to bring in any more.

After coming in from the bullpen in the seventh, Martinez faced just one batter over the minimum. The lefty collected five strikeouts in three innings to record his second save of the season.
