Cal Poly Spoils Senior Day with Win in La Jolla

LA JOLLA, Calif.  – Visiting Cal Poly spoiled the UC San Diego men's tennis home finale with a 4-0 victory over the Tritons on a warm Friday afternoon at Northview Tennis Courts. The Mustangs edged UC San Diego in doubles action before earning three straight sets singles wins to clinch the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Cal Poly took the doubles point thanks to wins on courts two and three. Action started in a promising fashion for the Tritons, as senior Daniel Traxler and sophomore Pelayo Rodriguez were 6-3 winners at the first position over Cal Poly's Noah Berry and Fernando Fonseca. The Mustangs leveled the score with a 6-3 win of their own at No. 2, where Bastiaan Weststrate and Colter Smith topped UC San Diego's Phillip Lan and Eric Silberman. Attention turned to court three, and Cal Poly's Ben Keyser and Joe Leather prevailed, 7-5, over the Tritons' Joseph Teh and Diogo Tinoco.
 
In singles play, the Mustangs got wins on courts two, one, and six to clinch the victory. Noah Berry at No. 1, Joe Leather at No. 2, and Carter Crookston on court six were all winners for the Mustangs.

One bright spot for UC San Diego in singles play was newcomer Diogo Tinoco, who won his first set, 6-3, on court three. He trailed 4-3 in the second set when play concluded.
