LA JOLLA, Calif. – The UC San Diego Women's Tennis team took care of business today at Northview vs. the visiting Point Loma team. Sweeping doubles action and clinching the match with three swift wins before playing to completion, the Tritons set a bold tone for the weekend by topping their first opponent.
Sophomore
Katelyn Vu maintains her singles win streak, which improved to 5, and Senior
Rachel Wagner stepped up at No. 6 to earn a crucial victory.
The Tritons leave this match with an overall record of 9-12, and Point Loma leaves with a 14-7 overall record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tritons put on an impressive team effort this afternoon at the Northview Tennis Courts. After a week off from matches, the team came out refreshed and ready to take on the two-match weekend.
UC San Diego was dominant during doubles action, bringing a swift sweep home to earn the point.
Sophie Pearson and
Naomi Nguyen brought in the first win of the afternoon at No. 3, closely followed by
Rachel Wagner and
Katelyn Vu at No. 2 with the clinch.
Ella Pachl and
Kelly Leung sweetened the deal for the Tritons, tacking on a third victory during doubles to earn the team's second doubles sweep of the 2023 season.
In singles action, the Tritons successfully carried their momentum forward.
Kelly Leung was first to finish at No. 1, mixing up her shots to keep her opponent on her heels and leaving it all out on the court. Next was
Rachel Wagner, who earned her second straight win at No. 6 after stepping up following an injury for
Sophie Pearson.
The match effectively ended with
Katelyn Vu's victory at No. 4, her 5th straight and 12th total so far this season. After Vu's clinch, Point Loma went on to win at Nos. 3, 2, then 5 despite valiant efforts by
Grace Gamal,
Ella Pachl, and
Naomi Nguyen.
