LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego opened the three-game series vs. Cal State Fullerton on Friday night with a 1-0 shutout loss.

In Big West play, CSF improves to 9-4 while UC San Diego drops to 5-8.
In the circle,
Jada Cecil allowed one unearned run on two hits and fanned seven Titans tonight. The right-hander tossed 120 pitches with 72 strikes for a finishing ERA of 1.75. This was her ninth complete game, and her season record moves to 7-8.

At the plate, the Tritons struggled with only three knocking a hit over the seven innings.
Marissa Hassis was 1-for-three,
Bobbi Aguirre and
Hailey Mulligan were both 1-for-two. Eight Tritons struck out tonight against CSF's pitching staff.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UC San Diego threatened in the bottom of the fourth when
Marissa Hassis laced a single over the shortstop to become the lead runner.
Kelley Renner came in as a pinch runner for Hassis at first.
Keila Bosinger then reached on a Titan error and advanced Renner to second. On a sacrifice fly from
Bobbi Aguirre, both runners moved up another base. The two Triton runners were left stranded as the final out came.

The pitchers battled through four innings as each only gave up one hit and no runs. In the fifth after a Triton error, CSF struck first going ahead at 1-0.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Tritons threatened again beginning the inning with a leadoff single from
Hailey Mulligan. She was advanced to second as
Morgan Eng put down a sacrifice bunt. The Triton shortstop was stranded on second as the next two Tritons grounded out.

The Tritons fell in the seventh when the tying run was caught stealing and the next two batters were retired in order.

- Reilly Erickson recorded her first start of the 2023 season tonight in right field.
- Only three Tritons were able to record a hit tonight against CSF's Friday night pitcher.
- Hailey Mulligan was 1-for-2 tonight to record her first hit in 10 games.
