HONOLULU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i swept UC San Diego in a Saturday afternoon doubleheader to win the three-game series. The Rainbow Wahine shutout the Tritons in both games with the Wahine pitching staff tossing a no-hitter in the final game of the series.
UC San Diego drops to 14-19 overall and 4-5 in Big West play. The Rainbow Wahine improve to 22-13 overall and in Big West play they are now 5-4.
In game one of the doubleheader,
Gabby Williams got the start for the Tritons in the circle. The lefty allowed two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Coming on as relief in the middle of the fifth,
Kaia Simpson allowed no runs on one hit with one walk and one strikeout.
At the plate,
Keila Bosinger led the gold and blue, going 2-for-3.
Deena Pederson,
Clarissa Reynoso,
Marissa Hassis, and
Gabby Williams each recorded a single hit.
Tossing her seventh complete game of the season,
Jada Cecil fanned 11 Rainbow Wahine in game two of the doubleheader. The sophomore allowed three runs on six hits with two walks. She pitched 121 total pitches with 73 strikes.
UC San Diego recorded no hits in game two of the doubleheader.
Clarissa Reynoso was the lone base runner after she was walked by the Wahine.
HAWAI'I 2, UC SAN DIEGO 0
At the plate, UC San Diego recorded six hits from five Tritons. Leaving seven total runners on, the gold and blue threatened in the second and seventh.
In the top of the second,
Sophia Real became the go-ahead runner after being walked by the Rainbow Wahine. She advanced to second on a sac bunt from
Clarissa Reynoso.
Marissa Hassis moved Real to third on a single laced up the middle. Both runners were left stranded.
Down by two, UC San Diego fought to rally in the seventh. A Wahine error allowed Hassis to become the lead runner.
Kelley Renner came in to pinch run for Hassis at first.
Gabby Williams lined a hard single at that Wahine pitcher and as the ball was kicked around, Renner reached third with only one out on the board. The Tritons' rally was cut short as the final two outs were punched.
HAWAI'I 3, UC SAN DIEGO 0
Jada Cecil pitched her seventh complete game of the season in game two of the doubleheader. The sophomore tossed 121 total pitches with 73 strikes. Fanning 11 Wahine wasn't enough as the Tritons recorded no hits against Hawai'i's pitching staff.
Clarissa Reynoso was the lone base runner after she was walked by the Wahine in the second inning.
