Pacific Downs Tritons Saturday Morning in La Jolla

LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego returned to the court for the first time in 12 days, falling to visiting Pacific by a 7-0 score Saturday morning at Northview Tennis Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Pacific took a 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. The Tigers got a 6-4 win at third doubles. Playing together for the second time, the UC San Diego tandem of senior Sophie Pearson and freshman Grace Gamal were 6-4 winners at No. 2. UOP took a 1-0 lead in the match by earning a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles.
 
Pacific swept singles action to earn the shutout victory. Freshman Grace Gamal won her first set at No. 2 before coming up short in the super tiebreaker, and sophomore Naomi Nguyen had a similar outcome at No. 4.

"Today we weren't at our best against a UOP team that is solid up and down the lineup," said UC San Diego head coach Liz LaPlante. "Both Grace and Naomi battled today against tough opponents."
 
TRITON TIDBITS
  • UC San Diego is now 0-2 vs. Pacific since the Tritons began their transition to Division I three seasons ago. The Tigers earned a 4-2 victory last season in La Jolla.
  • Sophomore Katelyn Vu and freshman Cincy Chen teamed together for the first time in doubles action this spring.
