UC San Diego Falls in Saturday Afternoon Matchup

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Returning to Triton Softball Field for game two of the three-game weekend series, UC San Diego fell to Boston College 5-1 on Saturday afternoon.

UC San Diego drops to 7-11 while the Eagles improve to 10-7.

Notching four hits over seven innings, the Tritons continued to struggle at the plate vs. the Eagles' pitching staff. Gabby Williams led the team going 3-for-4 with Keila Bosinger adding support at 1-for-3 with a walk.

Plagued by errors, Kaia Simpson allowed one earned run on seven hits over her 4.1 innings of work with one strikeout and two walks. Shelby Thompson came on as relief for the Tritons and another two unearned runs were plated by the Eagles. The lefty held BC to three hits with no walks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first inning had the Tritons down 2-0 with three errors committed by the gold and blue.

Threatening in the bottom of the inning, Keila Bosinger was walked in the bottom of the first to reach and Gabby Williams pushed her into scoring position with a single laced past the shortstop. With two outs already on the board, the runners were left stranded.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Tritons were able to load the bases on one out. But again, struggled to cash in on the baserunners, leaving all three stranded as the inning ended.

Both teams remained scoreless until the fifth inning. The Eagles pulled out to 3-0 lead in the top, but UC San Diego drew back within two with a run in the bottom. Waiting for her pitch, Bobbi Aguirre took four balls to become the lead runner for the Tritons. Hailey Mulligan came in as a pinch runner for Aguirre on first. Bosinger then sent a slow hopper over the infield to drop in right, advancing Mulligan. Williams lined a single at the shortstop once again to reach and advance Mulligan to third and Bosinger to second. On a fielder's choice, Marissa Hassis' reached when her hit sailed out to right center, plating Mulligan, but BC got the second out at third. With runners on second and first and two outs, the Eagles got out of the inning in the next at-bat.

An error in the sixth proved costly for the Tritons as the Eagles scored two more times to pull away to 5-1. UC San Diego was unable to respond in the bottom of the sixth and seventh.
