Tritons Make Quick Work of Villanova

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The UC San Diego Men's Tennis team swept Villanova Saturday afternoon on their home court, earning a 4-0 victory over the visiting Wildcats.
 
This match puts the Triton record at 4-9, while the visiting Villanova team comes away 3-7 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tritons kicked off their weekend with an outstanding performance against Villanova.
 
The doubles matches set the tone, with Nos. 1 and 3 securing efficient wins to clinch the doubles point. Tritons Diogo Tinoco and Joseph Teh took the first win of the day at No. 3  with a score of 6-0. At No. 1, Daniel Traxler and Pelayo Rodriguez earned a second win for the Tritons, clinching the point and sending the team to singles before No. 2 could finish.
 
UC San Diego continued to handle the competition in the singles matches, once again clinching the match with three swift wins. First to finish was Daniel Traxler at No. 2, who made quick work of his opponent with set 1 going to 6-1 and set 2 going to 6-3. Freshman Diogo Tinoco was second to finish, starting with another strong first set, 6-1. But it was Pelayo Rodriguez who brought a successful end to the match for the Tritons, sweeping his opponent in set 1 then taking set 2, 6-4.
