Tritons Fall at Fullerton Despite Career Performance from Forsyth

UC San Diego fell to Cal State Fullerton, 71-57, on Wednesday evening

FULLERTON, Calif.–UC San Diego San Diego women's basketball dropped a 57-71 contest to Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday evening in Titan Gym. With the loss, the Tritons (11-13, 8-6 Big West) moved to 3-2 in the all-time series with the Titans (11-13, 6-9 Big West).

Izzy Forsyth finished with a career high 26 points, while Parker Montgomery added six and Sydney Brown and Bridget Mullings chipped in five. Brown led the way with seven rebounds and Mullings added five. Five different Tritons tallied at least two assists and Emily Cangelosi, Forsyth and Montgomery each finished with two steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind early, the Tritons battled to keep pace with the CSUF offense. The Titans held a 12-6 lead before UC San Diego put together a six-point run to tie the game with 2:01 on the clock. Fullerton then went on a 10-2 run to close out the quarter and took a 22-14 lead into the break.

The Titans extended their lead to as many as 12 before the Tritons rallied with a 10-2 scoring run—sparked by eight consecutive points from Forsyth—to make it 24-28. A late three-pointer by CSUF extended the Titans lead again, 33-26, as the teams headed into halftime.

The Tritons kept pace with Fullerton to open the second half before an 8-0 scoring run by the Titans extended their lead, 46-31. UC San Diego continued to battle and chipped the deficit back to single digits, 52-43, heading into the final quarter break.

Cangelosi hit a three to open the fourth quarter and cut the deficit to six, but Fullerton responded with a three-point play of its own. With the Tritons trailing 55-48 midway through the quarter, CSUF put together a 10-2 run to effectively stall UC San Diego's momentum and secure the eventual victory, 71-57.
