LA JOLLA, Calif. – In an early morning rematch on Feb. 12, UC San Diego was shutout by Utah, 7-0, in their final game of the La Jolla Invitational.
The Tritons move to 3-2 on the season. Utah remains undefeated at 5-0.
Getting the start in the circle for the Tritons,
Gabby Williams tossed 3.2 innings allowing three runs with one earned on three hits and two strikeouts. Closing the game was
Kaia Simpson, the right-hander allowed no runs and on two hits with one strikeout. At the plate, the Tritons earned two hits with
Keila Bosinger and
Gabby Williams both going 1-for-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Scoring in four innings, the Utah Utes got on the board in the second after a Triton error. They scored twice in the fourth, once in the fifth, and three times in the sixth.
In the bottom of the second,
Gabby Williams laced a single up the middle to get on.
Kelley Renner entered as a pinch runner for Williams. On a ball to the second baseman from Aguirre, the Utes were able to turn a double play.
At the end of the top of the fourth,
Lily Hermosillo caught the runner stealing to end the half. In the bottom,
Keila Bosinger sent a single to shortstop, but was stranded on first.
With Utah scoring and a runner on in the fifth,
Deena Pederson made a diving catch for the third out to end the inning before any more damage could be done.
