Tritons Top Wellesley Blue in Home Dual Meet

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Hosting Wellesley College on Thursday at Main Gym, the UC San Diego women's fencing squad topped the Blue in a dual meet.
 
The Tritons earned two team victories today as the squads faced each other in two rounds. In round one, the Tritons earned 16 victories to the Blue's 11. The Tritons put the pressure on in the second dual taking the victory 20 to 7. The saber squad made up of Sarah Shen, Roxane Cayrat, Maya Desai, Christine Teng and Zara Fearns, led the day going undefeated in the second round with nine straight victories.

QUOTABLE
"Today was a strong performance against a very solid Wellesley College squad," commented head coach Juan Ignacio Calderon, "we hesitated a bit at the beginning of the first round, but we gained confidence with every bout adding two more wins to our season record."
 
Looking ahead to the rest of the season, he added, "this dual meet is the perfect preparation for the Northwestern Duals on Feb. 4 and 5, where we will fence 12 different teams that will define the regular season for us."

Both UC San Diego fencing squads will travel to Evanston, Ill. To compete at the Northwestern Duels on Feb. 4 and 5.
